Hi,
"as we are at it": How often do you think that we should update the map
material? OSMers want their map material in realtime, that's out of the
question. However, the german OSM server often is at its limits, and so I
think we should be "lazy" unless people really request up-to-date map
material.
Maybe we should make this dependent on download statistics, e.g. have 3 tiers:

Tier 1: Updated once per week
Tier 2: Updated every two weeks
Tier 3: Updated every month

Christian

I wanted to remove seldom needed files from the preprocessing list and update
the frequently loaded files more often. Unfortunately, the files are mirrored to
a server where we do not have access, rendering webalizer statistics pretty
useless :( .

That's a bummer. Any chances of that changing in the future?

We could also add buttons to request updates, but that seems a bit clunky.

When Edith finishes the auto-downloader we could add functionality
that sends us data to a custom server about which map a user
downloaded ( we should ask the user about opting in on this the first
time a map is downloaded ).

However, I would prefer a server-only solution. We can certainly start
by assigning tiers manually.
