I have done some enhancements, mainly to speech instructions, in my clone
http://code.google.com/r/robertvoigt-monav. I'm using it myself. Is there
anybody else interested in merging this and do something for the future of
monav?

due to a hard drive crash I've currently no Maemo SDK available and not
working on it actively. I guess I'll by an Android Device later this
year (suggestions for a HTC device with decent GPS are welcome), but
this will probalby happen not before autumn. My further interest depends
whether I'll get MoNav running on Android then.

Hi,

I've looked over everything and looks great so far!

I'll merge those changes in the main repo, but not yet into default,
since they are based on the permaroute branch, which IMO is not yet
ready to be merged ( the interface changes scale badly on some screen
configurations ).

Since Christoph isn't currently working on it anymore, I'll start
reviewing the branch next week and making it ready for a merge to
default. Together with the automated map download branch this should
justify releasing a new version.

Do you want to continue working on MoNav? What areas are you most
interested in? I guess you are using it on Maemo ( as opposed to
Andriod, or Harmattan-N9 )?

Best regards,

Christian

Yes, I want to continue working on it. Monav is the only software I've
found that has speech output and gives me complete control over the map
parameters for routing. I'm using it for mountain biking and hiking.

I'm using it on Maemo, still using the N900. I'll buy a handset with Jolla
OS or, as fallback, Tizen when it is available. So staying with Qt friendly
platforms. I can do some porting if necessary.

Does the mapdl branch have functionality to download tiles of an area for
the OSM renderer for offline use? This would be very useful for areas
without cellular coverage and abroad to avoid data roaming. I'll be in this
situation myself soon.

That's great. I'm kind-of disappointed with Nokia to discontinue
supporting Qt for the new platform. Luckily Qt seems to work quite
well on Android based phones also *g*.

No, it is about handling map packages downloads and updates. However,
the Mapnik plugin is basically just a bunch of pre-rendered tiles, and
very similar to downloading tiles. As long as we would offer the
packages for download it would be fine.

Christian
